PALMETTO BAY, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida family had shocking surprise swimming in their pool, Sunday.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Venom Unit captured a 13-foot Burmese python in the backyard pool of a house near Southwest 97th Avenue and 183rd Street.
The snake shocked the homeowner, who immediately called for help. "I saw a 12 foot python curled up in the corner of the pool and I called 911," said Suladie Miranda, through translation.
A production company recorded video of the daring capture. A member of the unit grabbed the snake by its neck and pulled it out of the pool. However, the snake slithered back into the water. The crew member said, "That is a very large Burmese python."
During the second attempt, the crew member takes the snake about three-quarters of the way out of the water, but the video shows the reptile once again gets back into the pool and starts to swim. "It was swimming around the whole pool," one girl said.
Several additional rescue crew members worked together to pull the python out of the family's pool. They placed the snake in a large cage and took it to a farm in Homestead.
No injuries were reported.
