Unseasonable temps means business boost - WMBFNews.com ...

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) With bright sunlight, short-sleeved shirts, and a pleasant breeze, it could be a picture of spring in the Grand Strand, but it's actually early January. Now businesses that thrive on pleasant weather are taking advantage of unseasonable temperatures to bring in extra customers.

"It's been pretty busy," says Drew Dennison of the Legends Golf Club in Carolina Forest. "We've been having a lot of locals come out and play a lot of golf."

Dennison says in season that's usually marked by frost delays and vacant tee sheets, a high volume of golfers from both nearby and far away has emerged. With temperatures staying relatively mild so far this winter, more people are taking advantage of the opportunity to get outdoors.

"We'll come out and play if it's cold or hot," says local golfer Daniel Pinzon. "But since this weather is better, we enjoy it more."

But Pinzon says there's actually an unexpected downside to warmer weather during the winter months. He says if it's warm in Myrtle Beach, odds are it's unseasonably warm in other parts of the country as well, and would-be golfers may opt to stay at home instead of venturing to the beach.

"People up north are staying and playing golf up there. So that's good for locals, but it's not necessarily good for business."
