GPs who can help raise the profile of chronic kidney disease, epilepsy, eye health or youth mental health are being sought by the Royal College of General Practitioners. The College appoints Clinical Champions every year to help raise awareness of the selected conditions throughout primary care, not just within general practice.
The chosen GPs will each lead a three-year programme in their clinical area. Their remit is to work collaboratively to ?influence and shape the development and delivery of a range of initiatives within the College and to spearhead partnership working with key stakeholders?, with the aim of improving care and patient outcomes.
This year the four clinical areas for which the College is seeking Clinical Champions are chronic kidney disease; epilepsy care; eye health, with a focus on ageing and sight loss; and youth mental health.
Dr Matt Hoghton, medical director of the RCGP?s Clinical Innovation and Research Centre, said: ?Being a clinical champion can be an extremely rewarding and stimulating experience, providing the opportunity to influence and shape the development and delivery of a range of initiatives within the College ranging from guidance to strategies and from audits to key reports.?
Clinical Champions are expected to spend one day a month in the role, and there is an annual budget of ?1500 to cover travel and other expenses.
Applications must be made by 5p.m. on Thursday 31 January, and the GPs recruited will have an induction day in March before formally starting their role on 1 April.
