Military-style weapons should not be available to general public

I was heartened to hear that former Special Forces Gen. Stanley McCrystal agrees with my position on gun control.

I was heartened to hear that former Special Forces Gen. Stanley McCrystal agrees with my position on gun control.

In a CNN television interview, McCrystal described the lethality of the military weapons and ammunition he?s familiar with and stated unequivocally that such lethal military weapons should not be in civilian hands. Military weapons should be on our battlefields, not on our streets.

I served in the 82nd Airborne Division and 7th Special Forces, and the deadly weapons that were at my disposal, designed to kill as many of the enemy as possible, should not be at the disposal of criminals, psychopaths, schizophrenics and the lunatics who believe the South will rise again and wish to overthrow the government of the United States.

Because that?s the ugly truth behind the civilian will to own military weapons, as I heard affirmed by an NRA member: They want to equal the firepower of the government in hopes of overthrowing it in the second American Revolution. Are you ready for that?

However long it takes, we need to ban assault weapons, cop-killer bullets and high-capacity magazines. And we need to close the gun-show loophole with background checks. No more guns sold in parking lots like cookies.
