Shopping for a DSLR is no easy task. There are almost as many manufacturers and models to choose from as there are opinions on what you should and shouldn't buy, and while some models stand out above the rest, which models those are can vary highly based on your budget, what you plan to do with the camera, and the photographer's skill level, among other things. Last week we asked you to nominate the DSLRs you thought were the best of breed. We rounded up your nominations in the five best DSLRs, and put them to an all out vote to determine the Lifehacker community favorite. Now we're back to highlight the winner.
The difference between first, second, and third place was ridiculously slim this week?the first and second were separated by only five votes. That goes to show you?if your favorite doesn't get nominated, make sure to stop by the call for contenders thread: the difference between making the top five and not is often a handful of nominations, and in many cases, the difference between number one and number two is a few votes.
The Canon EOS 5D took the top spot in our poll with 27.76% of the overall vote, earning praise from many of you as being Canon's mainstream prosumer shooter, an extremely popular and proven line of cameras that have been around for a good long time.
The 5D topped the second place, budget-friendly (at least by comparison) Canon EOS Rebel T3i by a tiny margin (.09% of the total vote.) The Rebel T3i brought in 27.67% of the votes cast. Falling into third place with just over 25% of the vote was the Nikon D800. The voting dropped off from there, with the Nikon D600 bringing in just over 10% of the overall vote, and the brand new Canon EOS 6D netting just over 9% of the votes cast.
The Hive Five is based on reader nominations. As with most Hive Five posts, if your favorite was left out, it's not because we hate it?it's because it didn't get the nominations required in the call for contenders post to make the top five. We understand it's a bit of a popularity contest, but if you have a favorite, we want to hear about it. Have a suggestion for the Hive Five? Send us an email at tips+hivefive@lifehacker.com!
