Top 3 Reasons to Implement a Middle School Yearbook Program

?

Between the sixth and ninth grades, many middle school students develop the attitude that they are literally too cool for school. At this stage, it is critical for parents, teachers and school staff to do whatever they can in order to keep students engaged and interested in learning.

This age group is also subject to a lack of school spirit. For many students, it is no longer hip to attend school functions or be involved in extracurricular activities. Fortunately, there are a number of ways in which faculty and staff members can combat this problem. From an emphasis on school sports to the promotion of spelling bees and science fairs, there is always a niche for each student to become involved. However, there is one area in which each student has a place: the school yearbook committee.

For middle schools, yearbook design and production can be a great way to get reluctant students excited about school. Below are the top three reasons why:

1) Each student will have a special talent that can be utilized in the creation of the yearbook. The artistic students will be able to help with the yearbook layout and design; the social ones with the interviewing of fellow students; and so on. There is a place for everyone in the yearbook committee.

?

2) Creating a yearbook can enrich one?s computer and teamwork skills. If the school finds an experienced and quality-focused yearbook company to work with, that company will likely have an online program that makes it easy for students, teachers and staff to work together simultaneously in the creation of the yearbook.

This allows for the yearbook committee to develop computer skills while working on the yearbook as a team.

?

3) Students and teachers will be able to promote the yearbook together. After months of hard work, students, teachers and staff members will take pride in promoting the yearbook that they created for the school. Some yearbook companies, such as Memory Book Company, offer promotional materials, including take-home envelopes to collect money, plus reminder stickers, cards and posters. These helpful materials not only serve as excellent marketing tools, but also boost school spirit by getting students excited for the release of the school yearbook.

With these reasons in mind, it would be rather negligent not to offer middle school students the opportunity to engage in this intellectually stimulating and fun extracurricular activity. Every student should be offered the chance to be involved in his or her school, and the yearbook is the perfect place for that to happen.
