Family Fears for Pets, People after Cat is Shot | KTXL FOX40

WOODLAND-

Amanda Hartman?s cats are part of the family, so when she came home from a dinner out March 13 and saw Annie, her orange tabby, wounded, it was heartbreaking.

?It bothered me, it bothered me a lot, it still does,? Hartman said.

Annie wasn?t hit by a car or in a fight, she had been shot by a pellet gun.

?They discovered the pellet was lodged against her spine she was having trouble using her back legs,? said Hartman.

Annie was paralyzed, but the problems didn?t stop there. A few days later, she stopped drinking and eating. By later Friday, Annie died.

?It broke my heart I immediately though who would do this,? said Hartman.

Yolo County Sheriff Deputies are investigating the situation right now they have no leads, but Hartman has a pretty good idea who?s responsible.

?I immediately started to look and see who was outside. Thoughts just running through my head, I was like, ?it?s kids. It?s kids that run around unsupervised. I know it is,?? said Hartman.

Hartman also knows it was no accident.

?I got a call the next day after a specialist reviewed the X-ray and they had discovered there was something on her hip. It looks like she was either kicked or pushed as well as being shot with a pellet,? said Hartman.

Hartman has four more cats. She is worried this shooting could happen again or, even worse, the shooter could target a person.

?First it starts with animals, then it upgrades to something more, especially if they don?t get caught,? said Hartman.

If you know anything, call the Yolo County Sheriff?s Office at (530) 668-5287.
