Union Gap, WASH.--The City of Union Gap let go of their police chief.
Robert Almeida was released from his job Monday.
The City Attorney said a medical condition made it hard for Almeida to complete essential tasks and they had to part ways.
Mayor Jim Lemon said he always considered Almeida to be a good employee, and he appreciates the job he did.
"We tried to reach a combination to try to have him meet those essential functions, but he was not able to," said City Attorney Robert Noe.
The City Attorney said Sergeant Greg Cobb will take over as interim chief until the end of the year.
In the mean time, the city will evaluate the position before hiring a new police chief.
The Mayor said Almeida served as chief for over 20 years.
